How Long Does It Take To Install and Finish a Roof?

Once we start working on your roof, it usually takes no more than three business days for most standard residential homes. Express Roofing is a certified contractor by the City Of Los Angeles, which saves you the extra expense on your roofing permit and speeds up the process once we start physical work on your roof.

Can I Have My Roof Replaced In The Winter? What if it rains?

Don’t be afraid to remove your roof in the winter!  We make sure the night before your scheduled installation begins that we will have a good amount of clear days before we begin your project.

If the weather forecast is not optimal and rain or high winds are expected, we will inform you of the need to postpone your project until the weather clears, and also get you re-scheduled – don’t worry, you will not lose your spot in line.

If weather forecast was for clear skies but rain catches us by surprise, we will cover your roof with plastic and make sure it is safe until the weather clears. We take these precautionary steps whether it is winter or summer.

Can I Add Solar Panels On My Roof?

Solar panels are compatible with most roofing materials, including: Fiberglass Shingles, Flat Roofs and Tile roofs. Most solar companies will ask you to complete your new roof and they will come in the next day to install your new solar panels, which will need new post anchors and flashings around them. 

Which Is The Best Roof To Keep My House Cool?

Cool roofing shingles reflect the sun’s rays, Energy Star rated shingles can reduce air conditioner usage, lower your utility bills, and increase the comfort level inside your home. Since 2015 Los Angeles Green Building Code requires new builds in LA to have cool roofs.

A cool roof reflects and emits the sun’s energy as light back to the sky instead of allowing it to enter the building below as heat. In many climate zones, a cool roof can substantially reduce the cooling load of the building, providing several direct benefits to the building owner. Increased occupant comfort, especially during hot summer months – reduced air conditioning use, saving energy typically 10-30% and last but not least decrease roof maintenance costs due to longer roof life.

Because cool roofs reduce air-condoning use during the day’s hottest peak periods. Therefore, use of cool roofs reduces the stress on the energy grid during hot summer months and helps avoid shortages that can cause blackouts. I addition, for homeowners that pay for their energy based on time of use, they save energy when it is at its most expensive time.

I Live in Los Angeles, Am I Required to Have a Cool Roof?

Starting Oct.1, 2014, the 2014 Los Angeles Green Building Code requires that roofing material used in residential buildings meet certain values for the “aged solar reflectance” and “thermal emittance”,or for “SRI“.

Exceptions, when a cool roof is NOT required are:  for Roof repair; or Roof replacement when the roof area being replaced is equal to or less than 50% of the total roof area; or  where building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) are installed.

Can I Get A Rebate if I Have a Cool Roof?

LADWP’s cool roof rebates are available to single-family and multi-family residential customers, and are part of the Consumer Rebate Program.

To offset increased costs of a cool roof, LADWP has enhanced its cool roof rebate to offer between $0.20 and $0.30 per square foot of roofing, found at www.ladwp.com/rebatesandprograms (click on “Building Products”). Additionally, the building owner should realize reduced energy consumption, better indoor comfort, and increased life expectancy of the roof.
